Sara Allstadt, DVM
Diplomate, American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine
Oncology
From rodeo arenas to leading-edge cancer care, Dr. Sara Allstadt has built a career defined by compassion, excellence, and an unwavering commitment to animals and the people who love them.
Raised with a deep passion for horses and competitive rodeo, Dr. Allstadt’s love for animals shaped her path from an early age. After earning her Bachelor of Science in Zoology from Auburn University, she went on to receive her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2002. What began as a career in mixed animal medicine quickly evolved into a calling in veterinary oncology — where she discovered her passion for helping pets and families navigate some of life’s most difficult moments with hope and expertise.
Dr. Allstadt completed advanced specialty training through prestigious internships in small animal medicine, surgery, and oncology at Affiliated Veterinary Specialists in Florida and Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston. She then completed her oncology residency at the University of California, Davis, one of the nation’s premier veterinary teaching hospitals, and became board certified in Medical Oncology through the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine.
Her career in academic and clinical oncology has been nothing short of exceptional. Dr. Allstadt served as Assistant Professor of Clinical Medical Oncology at UC Davis before continuing her academic career at the University of Tennessee. She later joined the Veterinary Research and Oncology Center at UT Southwestern as Associate Professor of Clinical Medical Oncology before returning to VSNT.
Beyond clinical care, Dr. Allstadt has made significant contributions to veterinary medicine through research, education, and mentorship. She has authored more than 40 research abstracts, articles, and book chapters, while also mentoring countless veterinary residents and interns. Her leadership and expertise have earned her active roles within both the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine and the Veterinary Cancer Society.
But what truly sets Dr. Allstadt apart is her heart. She combines world-class oncology expertise with a genuine understanding of the bond between pets and their families — treating every patient with the same compassion and dedication she would want for her own animals.
Outside the hospital, Dr. Allstadt enjoys competing in cutting events with her horses, spending time outdoors with her dogs Little Bit and Griffin, and cheering on her beloved Auburn Tigers. War Eagle!
